If this is where you are

Coping is not the same as being alright

From the outside it looks like you are managing. You get to work, you answer the messages, you take care of the people who depend on you. Nobody has noticed that it is taking everything you have.

Maybe the worry does not switch off anymore, even when you can't quite tell what's wrong. Maybe you are flat in a way you cannot explain to anyone, or short-tempered with the people you least want to be short with. Maybe something changed — a baby, a diagnosis, a separation, a death — and you never quite got the feeling you fully adjusted to the new normal, but you simply carry on.

And somewhere in there is the voice telling you this should not be so hard, that other people manage — so why don't I feel better? That voice is not what is keeping you going. It is a large part of what is wearing you down.

You do not need to be in crisis to deserve help, and you do not have to arrive with it all worked out. A first conversation is enough.

The telehealth advantage

Therapy that fits the life you actually have

The most common reason people stop going to therapy is not that it was not working. It is that getting there stopped being possible. A standing appointment that needs a commute, a parking space and half an afternoon is the first thing to go in a difficult month — which is usually the month you needed it most.

Online therapy removes that. There is no drive, no waiting room, and no explaining to a colleague why you are leaving early. You join from home in Somerset, from an office in Newark, from a parked car in Cherry Hill on a lunch break. Wherever you are in New Jersey, you are in range — and for a lot of people that is the difference between weekly therapy and therapy they keep meaning to restart.

It matters more than convenience, too. If leaving the house is part of what is hard — because of anxiety, because of young children, because of exhaustion or age or a body that does not cooperate — then a format that requires you to leave the house puts a barrier in front of the help. Research into telehealth counseling has consistently found it effective for concerns like anxiety and depression, with outcomes comparable to meeting in person. The working relationship travels perfectly well down a video call.

All sessions are held over secure, HIPAA-compliant video. You need nothing more complicated than a device with a camera and a door you can close.

Meet your counselor

Greg Bing, MA, LPC — empathetic, and honest with you

I am not the therapist who nods in silence and waits for the hour to end. I will ask clear, thoughtful questions, I will tell you what I am noticing, and we will work on something specific. Warm and honest at the same time — most people find that a relief, particularly if they have tried therapy before and found it too vague to be useful.

Therapy with me is non-judgmental. Whatever your situation, our work together will be based in understanding and acceptance, and treated with confidentiality and respect.

My therapy is grounded in Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), pioneered by Albert Ellis, a style that is capable of providing short term relief to immediate problems, as well as deeper, more long term work connected with more foundational issues. We learn to accept feelings, not to talk ourselves out of feeling them, but to check whether the beliefs underneath the feeling are helping. A rigid rule like "I must never let anyone down" may help us meet goals, but produces a great deal of anxiety. When it becomes "It is important to me to come through for people," the anxiety has less to feed on.

My work is trauma informed, which means we go at a pace that keeps you steady rather than pushing into things before there is enough trust to hold them. And if we uncover trauma that needs to be addressed, I am ready to help you through that work safely and effectively.

I have worked in the mental health field since 2008, and I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor in New Jersey since 2022. My training is in counseling: an M.A. from Kean University and an M.Ed. from Rutgers University.

Most people arrive with their thoughts, their behaviors and their feelings fused into one idea — "I am just not happy". Separating them is what turns something overwhelming into something clear enough to heal.

What working together looks like

Three things we build, in this order

Therapy with me is not open-ended drifting. It follows a shape, and you will always know which part we are in.

  1. A clear understanding of what is happening

We start by separating out thoughts, behaviors and emotions — three distinct but closely related parts of how you work. Seeing which is which turns "everything is awful" into something specific enough to act on.

  2. Insight into the habits underneath

Then we look at the habitual behaviors and long-held beliefs driving those feelings, and at how they came to make sense. Understanding why a pattern exists is what makes it possible to change rather than just resist.

  3. New habits, tested in a real week

And then we experiment. New responses, tried out between sessions, kept when they increase your happiness and satisfaction and adjusted when they do not. The aim is that you leave with skills you can use without me.

Online sessions are covered like in-person ones

New Jersey law requires insurers to reimburse telehealth at the same rate as an equivalent in-person visit (P.L. 2021, c.310, in force through at least July 2026). In practice that means choosing online therapy should not cost you more than sitting in a waiting room would have.

Common questions

Questions people ask before they call

Is telehealth therapy as effective as in-person?

For most of what I work with, yes. Research into telehealth counseling has consistently found it effective for concerns like anxiety and depression, with outcomes comparable to meeting in a room. The part that does the real work — the relationship, and the thinking you do together — travels well over video. What telehealth adds is consistency: no commute and no waiting room means the appointment survives a busy week, and weekly therapy works best when it is actually weekly.

Do you take my insurance for online therapy in NJ?

I am in network with twelve New Jersey plans: Aetna, AmeriHealth, Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Carelon Behavioral Health, Cigna and Evernorth, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, Magellan, Optum, Oxford, UMR and UnitedHealthcare. New Jersey law also requires insurers to reimburse telehealth at the same rate as an equivalent in-person visit, so choosing online should not cost you more. I verify your specific benefits before the first session so you know your copay in advance.

How does the first virtual session work?

You will get a secure video link by email beforehand — no app to install and no account to create; you click it at the appointment time. The first session is mostly listening and questions: what brought you here, how long it has been going on, what you have already tried, and what a better situation would actually look like. By the end you will have a feel for how I work and we will agree where to start. You do not need to prepare anything.

Do I have to live in Somerset to become a client?

No. I am based in Somerset, but the practice is entirely online and I see clients right across New Jersey — Newark, Jersey City, Princeton, the shore, anywhere in the state. The only requirement is that you are physically located in New Jersey at the time of the session, because that is where I am licensed. Where you live, and how far that is from Somerset, does not matter.

How much does a session cost without insurance?

Sessions are $200, for both individual and couples counseling. The initial 15-minute consultation is free.

What is the free 15-minute consultation?

A short call before you commit to anything. You tell me what is going on, I answer your questions about how I work, and we decide together whether I am the right fit. There is no charge and no obligation to book a session afterwards. If I am not the right person, I will say so and point you elsewhere.

Who do you work with?

Adults and older adults, including clients over 65, in individual counseling and in couples counseling. My main focus is parents of young children, and I also work with anxiety, depression, grief, substance use and life transitions.

How do I get started?

Book the free consultation online, or call or text me on (732) 305-0277. I reply to new inquiries within one business day.

One conversation is enough to start

A free 15-minute call, no charge and no obligation. Tell me what is going on, ask me anything, and we will work out together whether this is the right fit. If it is not, I will help you find somewhere that is.
